Dante Nou is an incredibly talented Australian visual artist and musician whose minimalist/ down-tempo tunes inspire a certain nostalgic feeling translated by Nou into his music video for “I Think I Lost Myself”, which he produced himself.

This extraordinarily talented visual artist has had his song and video featured on Triple J Unearthed and works from home. Pause Fest caught up with him recently.

We were introduced to Dante Nou’s work through a friend and media partner Roger Darnell from The Darnell Works Agency in New York. It was extremely exciting to find out that this amazing visual artist Dante lives in Adelade, and had to invite him to Pause Fest and ask him a few questions about his work.

PF:

You are musician but do you make your own videos or do you get studios like Shilo to work on your music? Like in the “Still Run” clip.

DN:

Well for the “Still Run” clip Andre Stringer from Shilo heard the song and came to us with an idea for a video using some footage they already had and they just kept on building and building on it, we were really happy with how it turned out.

PF:

If there was an agency involved in making “I Think I Lost Myself”, which one was it? I really enjoy your music and I think the video perfectly fits the music, what was your brief to the agency or what was the driving idea behind that video?

DN:

Thank you! I created it all myself over about 6 months. The idea behind the video is pretty similar to the lyrics of the song, I tried to make it feel kind of spacious and barren. I didn’t want to do much character driven stuff in it because I thought it would probably take away from the whole video trying to bring an ‘orb’ to life and having it bounce around or something, so I focused more on the actual scenes it was traveling through and making it feel as photographic and fitting as I could.

PF:

You recently finished a show reel, so what is the next move? What can we expect to see and hear from you?

DN:

I’m just setting up to go for a trip over to Europe with my girlfriend! At the moment though I’m working on new music, which will hopefully eventually be a new EP!
When I get back from Europe I’m hoping to find some compositing work and getting back into that more…
