Cake is a creative animation, design and live-action studio founded by David Pocull and Thiago Maia. Although based in London they collaborate with designers and animators from around the world to bring a wealth of experience to each brief.

The co-founders are successful in their own right. Pocull has worked and lived in a number of countries for big-name brands such as NBA, BBC, MTV, Vh1, Animal Planet, Nike, Fox Europe, Paramount Comedy and Gatorade.

Maia also brings a stunning roll-call of client like Cartoon Network, Virgin, Universal, Microsoft, Pepsi, Nickelodeon, SKY and Nokia to name a few. He is also the co-founder of animation and design event/blog See No Evil and participated in the acclaimed Resonance project.

Their work is bold and bright and often delicious. This sugary sweetness has been featured in magazines such as Stash and Computer Arts and at festivals such as OFFF, Sonar, Playground Fest and Cutout Fest. They were also the icing on the 3D feature film project, on the life of Graham Chapman from Monty Python, A Liar’s Autobiography, 3D.

These two bakers have cooked up some exciting and evocative projects in the short time they have been working together. One of the latest is the opening and end titles for the Moving Box Entertainment film “A Box for Rob”. Using mixed media such as 2D, stopmotion and film they have captured the emotion of the film and created an innovative piece that casts a new light on title project design.

If you’re salivating for more delectable treats from these guys you can check out their work this year at Pause Fest 2011!
